Support and counselling services for students who have experienced discrimination

If you study at the University of Münster and have experienced or observed discrimination in a university context, we encourage you to contact one of the following advisory offices should you require confidential support and counselling.

All support and advisory offices at the University of Münster listed here are obliged to maintain confidentiality or professional secrecy. The support staff will discuss and explain possible steps you can take and put you in contact with other University-affiliated and/or external offices if necessary. This means that the support centres, complaints offices and counselling staff shall only take action in concrete cases with the explicit consent of the person concerned.

  • Are you a student at the University of Münster and have experienced or observed discrimination in the university context and would like to talk about it confidentially?

The Equal Opportunity Office is responsible for gender equality at the University of Münster on a structural and personnel level. The central Equal Opportunity Officer and her deputies from the groups of non-academic women staff and women students are sworn to secrecy. The Equal Opportunity Office helps protect employees against gender discrimination and sexual harassment and advises women students with issues related to maintaining a healthy work-life balance and eliminating discrimination.

The Rectorate Representative for Students with a Disability or Chronic Illness serves as a contact for students with disabilities in an advisory capacity. She acts as an ombudswoman in the event that professorial colleagues, mid-level academic staff and students require mediation from a neutral party.

  • Are you a student at the University of Münster and have experienced or observed discrimination in a university context? Has this affected you so much that you’re looking for counselling, support or assistance?

The Psychological Counselling staff of the Student Advice and Counselling Centre (ZSB) provides support to students and doctoral candidates enrolled at the University of Münster who feel burdened by their current academic situation or have problems that impact their well-being, quality of life and ultimately their studies. There are many reasons why students occasionally require psychological counselling, including when one experiences discrimination or disadvantages in a university context.
