The University of Münster supports refugees who wish to begin or continue studying or their academic career in Germany. On this page you will find the central counselling services for students and researchers as well as current information and offers.

News and deadlines at a glance

  • The call for applications for the 15th round of the Philipp Schwartz Initiative starts on 09.12.2024. Further information here or on the programme website.

  • For students

    If you are a refugee and wish to begin or continue your studies at the University of Münster, we can help you. With various projects and funding programmes, we continually develop and expand our programmes for refugee students, e.g. university preparatory courses.

     


     

    Academic counselling

    If you wish to apply for admission to the University of Münster, we invite you to contact the International Office for an initial consultation on admission requirements and degree programmes.

    Please note: There will be no consultation hours from 23 December 2024 to 3 January 2025!

    You need a stable internet connection, a microphone and a webcam. You do not need to register to enter the Online Consultation. You can find the waiting room here. You will be called into the conversation when it is your turn.

    "NRWege Grants" for students with refugee experience

    The International Office can award grants for students with refugee experience. The program is funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia.

    Language course support

    The University of Münster awards language course tuition waivers to prospective students who are preparing for university enrolment. Refugees, who meet the formal admission requirements, may apply to attend a German language course.

    You can receive more information at your initial consultation with Ms Noack at the International Office.

  • For post-graduates (PhD)

    The University of Münster supports refugee post-graduate students who wish to enrol in a PhD or postdoc programme as well as academics and researchers by providing advice and assistance with funding applications.


    Consultation for doctoral candidates

    Refugees, who wish to enrol in a PhD programme at the University of Münster, should arrange an appointment for an initial consultation with the Centre for Emerging Researchers (CERes).

    Student project "Welcome Münster"

    Welcome Münster e.V. is a non-partisan, non-denominational student organisation at the University of Münster which makes it easier for refugees to adjust to life in Germany through intercultural exchange with students.

    Welcome Dinner

    Münster residents cook for immigrants and invite them to spend an evening in their home. The immigrants get to know life in Münster, the hosts encounter other cultures, customs and languages.

    Project Zusammenleben Willkommen

    Since 2014, the project Zusammenleben Willkommen has been bringing together people who provide housing and refugees in order to initiate private accommodation.
