Students at the University of Münster may enrol in the following degree programme models:
Two-cycle teaching degree programmes
(with conferral of a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), or Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) and Master of Education (M.Ed.))
As part of a pilot project which began in 2004 and the final passage of a legal reform of teacher training programmes in 2009, the University of Münster now offers degree courses for teacher qualification based on consecutive bachelor's and master's degree programmes. In the first cycle, candidates receive a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) if they combine two natural scientific subjects (including Mathematics and Computer Science) with one another, or a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) for two Humanities subjects or one Natural Science and one Humanities subject combined.
In addition to their two future teaching subjects, Educational Science is a mandatory component of all teacher qualification degree courses.
Double-major bachelor's degree programme (2FBA)
(with conferral of a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.))
Students are permitted to study all subjects offered in the two-cycle double-major bachelor's teaching degree programme, as well as other subjects (which do not culminate in a teaching degree), i.e. two subjects in combination including those with a more academic-theoretical orientation. Conferral of a double-major bachelor's degree normally qualifies candidates for admission to a master's degree programme (non-teaching). In addition to the two subjects, candidates are also required to complete 20 credits in General Studies courses.
All double-major bachelor's degree programmes at the University of Münster are "polyvalent", meaning that they offer graduates various options in determining the direction of their future professional and academic career. For example, students can decide whether to take up employment or continue their studies in a master's programme (non-teaching) or Master of Education programme, provided they meet the respective admission requirements.
Single-major bachelor's degree programme
(with conferral of a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in the Humanities, or a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in the Natural Sciences and Mathematics)
Master's degree programme
(with conferral of a Master of Arts (M.A.), Master of Science (M.Sc.), Master of Law (LL.M.) or others)
The master's degree programmes at the University of Münster are known for their research-oriented focus, interdisciplinary character and international cooperation, all of which distinguish the University's profile-building character. These programmes offer students advanced, specialised professional qualification and entitle them, under certain conditions, to enrol in a doctoral degree programme.
Continuing education programmes
(post-graduate master's degree programmes)
As a rule, candidates may apply for admission to a continuing education programme after completing at least one year of employment. Furthermore, students may be required to pay tuition fees for certain continuing education programmes.

Overview of continuing education programmes [de]
Although the majority of degree courses are now bachelor's and master's programmes, there are several academic models at the University of Münster which continue to confer traditional higher education degrees. These include:
There are still a large number of traditional degree courses at the University of Münster which conclude with the conferral of a Diplom and Magister certificate. However, these academic models are gradually being phased out which means enrolment in these programmes is no longer possible.
