Heinrich Scholz and the School of Münster: Mathematical Logic and Basic Research

Long term research project

Heinrich Scholz (1884-1956) was one of the most unusual intellectuals of his time: he was successively professor of Protestant Theology, Philosophy and Mathematical Logic. The scientist, who worked in Münster from 1928, was convinced that logic and metaphysics complement each other. The School of Münster in mathematical logic and basic research that he initiated radiated even into computer science. The project aims to make his extensive legacy accessible within the framework of a digital complete edition.

HiSMaComp

DFG/NCN joint research project

In order to focus on urban development in a comparative way, the HiSMAComp project, which has been funded by the DFG and NCN since 2022, relies primarily on survey maps from the 19th century. The development and spatial structures of six Polish and German cities are being reconstructed and compared on the basis of typological criteria. The influence of certain functions on the shape of the individual cities and the development paths that characterise the city types form the first objective of the project.
