External Module
What is the external module?
In the external module, students of the Single-subject B.A. acquire basic knowledge of other subjects, which helps them to gain an interdisciplinary view of communication science and to recognise the interfaces between communication science and neighbouring disciplines. Accordingly, courses that are of an introductory scientific nature and belong to another scientific discipline are eligible for recognition. The study of the external module comprises 20 credit points.
Which courses belong to the external module?
The IfK has four permanent cooperation partners for the external module: Sociology, Psychology, Political Science and Educational Science. As part of this cooperation, IfK students have access to a new course from these subjects every semester. In addition, the IfK regularly offers courses on the subject of marketing. You can always find these courses in the electronic course catalogue and on the homepage of the study section.
Registration and recognition of coursework in the external module
Registration for courses offered by the IfK's cooperation partners must be made within the deadlines announced each semester exclusively by email to: kowi.fremdmodul@uni-muenster.de.
Recording of coursework in the external module
Registration according to examination regulations V20:
You register for one external course at a time with one of the corresponding examination numbers (25001, 25002, 25003, 25004) in QISPOS. The order does not matter.
Registration according to examination regulations V15:
As a rule, registration for exams and the booking of individual courses completed in the external module is not carried out via the electronic examination administration system QISPOS. The exception here is Political Science. You must register for Political Science examinations via QISPOS. You get your examination entitlement with a place on the list of participants published by the IfK at the end of each semester. In principle, you are automatically registered for examinations in Sociology and Psychology via the attendance lists. In Educational Science, you are also generally registered, but in some courses you are also required to register for the examination in person within the QISPOS registration period. After successfully completing the examination, you will be issued with a written confirmation of your coursework, a so-called certificate of achievement, which you can collect from the respective institutes. As a rule, you will submit a pre-filled blank certificate for the exam in Educational Science and Sociology. Psychology is an exception here. The grades of the courses attended there are forwarded directly to the IfK. The IfK will issue you with a corresponding certificate, which you can collect from the relevant secretary's office. In Educational Science and Sociology, please make sure that you actively ensure that you are issued with the corresponding written certificate after successfully completing an external module course. If required, you can obtain blank forms from the IfK’s secretariat. The grade for the external module is recorded in QISPOS as a whole by the Examinations Office. To do this, fill out the "Recognition" form and have it signed by the academic advisor (also possible by email). You then go to the Examinations Office with the proof. There, the credits earned will be recorded in QISPOS. Alternatively, the academic advisor can also send the recognition directly to the clerk at the Examinations Office by email. Please provide a QISPOS printout as proof of credits already recorded in the foreign module in QISPOS.
In addition to the completed form, please also bring your performance records during the consultation hours.
