Communication Science Student Body

We – the Departmental Student Body (Fachschaft KoWi, short for “Kommunikationswissenschaft”) – are an institution that represents the interests of students at the Department of Communication. In principle, the student council is made up of all Communication Science students in Münster, but colloquially the term refers to the voluntary association of some students in the so-called Departmental Student Body - that is us. We represent the interests of Communication Science students in all matters of university policy and thus act as an interface between the students on the one hand and the teaching staff, the department and the university on the other. We also answer all student questions and advise you on any problems you may have regarding your studies or a possible start in communication science.

We represent the interests of students in various committees, such as the IfK Executive Board, the Faculty Council (and its committees such as the Student Advisory Board, etc.) and the Student Council Conference. We also take part in MeStuTa, a student conference for all media degree programmes in the DACH association, which we will even host ourselves in the summer semester of 2025. Irma Ziemke and Maximilian Wunschik are currently elected members of the IfK board. This semester, the student council is acting in an advisory capacity in the faculty council. Sara Kohn is chair of the student council, with Maximilian Wunschik and Emilia Saemann taking on deputy roles. Anna Leffringhausen is responsible for finances.

In addition to our involvement in university politics, we organise various events for all students. The most important project for us is the orientation week for our Communication Science first-year students, which takes place every year at the beginning of the winter semester. We also organise regular Communication Science parties, summer festivals and poetry slams. Apart from that, the Departmental Student Body is above all one thing: a cosy community that meets regularly on Mondays to talk about all sorts of things. Whether it's an exchange of experiences with students from higher semesters, just a friendly chat or a game of Werewolf, we meet to spend time together. Feel free to join this family-like community and come along to our meetings. All are welcome!

The Departmental Student Body has collected an overview of external initiatives that are particularly relevant to Communication Science students. You can volunteer with these initiatives alongside your studies. This overview can be viewed here.
