Doctoral Subjects

The Faculty of History/Philosophy considers itself to be a community of subjects with a high potential for interdisciplinary discourse. The doctorate is carried out in one subject in which also the accompanying academic study programme is attended and the doctoral examination is taken.

The doctoral subject usually corresponds to the subject of the degree preceding the doctorate, but another subject may be chosen in justified cases. The first supervisor of a doctorate is usually a university lecturer who represents the doctoral subject full-time at the University of Münster.
