Validation grants

Validation grants enable researchers to further develop patentable inventions or tech-based ideas obtained through basic research at the University of Münster. The objective is to reduce the time required between building the prototype and evaluating its market viability. The funds can be expended as needed for personnel costs or material expenses. Funding is contingent on having a promising, patentable product derived from basic research.

For those interested in founding a start-up based on their funded invention or tech-based idea can obtain advice and support through the REACH EUREGIO Start-up Center of the University of Münster.

All researchers at the University of Münster are eligible to apply for validation grants. Before the application can be considered, the invention must be formally disclosed to and reviewed by the patent application agency PROvendis GmbH as being patentable and promising. The invention need not already be registered for a patent. If you are interested in applying for a validation grant, we recommend contacting the University’s Innovation Office (AFO) early in the process.
