The “University Basketball Club Münster” UBC was founded on January 17, 1961 in the gymnasium of the Schillergymnasium in Münster, where basketball is still played today. The basketball club looks back on historic promotions and relegations to the second national league.
In 2019, the first team even earned the right to play in the second highest player class of the ProLigaA. However, according to the management, this step was too early, so the team is currently in the top positions of the ProLigaB table. In close cooperation with schools, the university and by promoting young talent, the club ensures that the sporting level is maintained and the team's potential is further expanded.
In order to emphasize the connection with the University of Münster, the team name was changed to “Uni Baskets of the UBC Münster” (until 2023: WWU Baskets). Thanks to its recent successes, the club generates a large number of spectators and fills the hall with up to 3,000 spectators at home games. As part of the West German Basketball Association (WBV), the UBC is one of the state's performance bases for top-class sport. The university supports the club as a partner school for top-class sports with a range of supporting offers for student players.
