UFC Münster

In the summer of 2002, the football team from the University of Münster, led by Jörg Verhoeven, traveled to Portugal to take part in an indoor football tournament. The boys had already played indoor football, so the organizers' extensive set of rules were safely ignored. When they arrived on the Portuguese pitch, people were astonished when the bounce-reduced ball, the handball goals and the missing boards were discovered. Indoor football according to internationally applicable FIFA rules, i.e. futsal. In the end, the Münster team's performance was more of a cultural aspect. The hosts were kind enough to at least present the fair play trophy to the guests from Germany.

Back in Münster, the UFC President Georg von Coelln began to express his enthusiasm for this football discipline. Münster University Sports set up futsal courses and supported a futsal competition team. Georg von Coelln and other futsal enthusiasts also founded a club - the UFC Münster. This name was chosen because that is where the club's roots lie. Without the willingness to support university sports at the University of Münster, this sport would not have been possible since 2002.

The club was registered in January 2005 in order to be able to join the DFB association. As the greatest success of a German futsal team ever, the UFC players made it into the UEFA Cup in 2005. Since then, the UFC has won pretty much everything there is to win and has also been able to make a name for itself internationally. In 2016, numerous UFC players were appointed to the national team that was founded there for the first time. In addition to the men's teams, the UFC has the most successful German women's team. They have already taken first places and won other awards in tournaments abroad (Russia, Portugal, Netherlands...).

The team, led by UFC President Georg von Coelln, and the club's players ensure that the extremely dynamic, fast and tactical indoor sport increases in popularity in Germany through their commitment, for example in schools. The official and internationally standardized FIFA indoor football is not as well-known and professionally structured in Germany as it is abroad. Promoting this great sport is a matter close to the hearts of many members of Germany's most successful futsal club.

By working with the University of Münster as a partner university for top-class sports, the players can master their studies despite the sporting demands.
