Dramatic Reading “Secret Plan Against Germany” Enhances Journalism Research Lecture

(25.06.2024) Students attending the bachelor's lecture on journalism research at the University of Münster were treated to a unique session on June 25: The ensemble from the Kleiner Bühnenboden staged a dramatic reading titled "Secret Plan Against Germany", based on investigative research by CORRECTIV from the winter of 2023/24.

In January 2024, CORRECTIV Research Center published detailed investigations concerning a meeting of right-wing ideologues from politics, society, and business discussing the expulsion of millions of people based on racist categorizations. This investigative work sparked nationwide protests, with hundreds of thousands taking to the streets against the rise of the right-wing in Germany. Furthermore, the investigation was adapted into the dramatic reading "Secret Plan Against Germany", which is available for performance in theaters across Germany. The play is regularly performed by the Kleine Bühnenboden theater in Münster, featuring Maria Goldmann, Ulrich Bärenfänger, Konrad Haller, Toto Hölters, and Stefan Nászay.

Initiated by Nina Springer, the one-hour reading was performed during the journalism research lecture at Münster Castle. This allowed the lecture participants – bachelor students from the Institute for Communication Science (IfK), the Faculty of Educational and Social Sciences, and Psychology – to engage vividly with the societal significance and democracy-promoting consequences of journalistic investigative research. It also discussed the dangers that journalists must face in their daily work as they fulfill their socially relevant duties. The dramatic reading thus facilitated the transfer of theoretical lecture content to concrete journalistic practice on various levels. The event received support from the MediaAlumni Münster e.V., an association of IfK alumni.
