New ERASMUS partnership between the IfK and Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest

(06.01.2025) The IfK Münster has a new partnership with the Department of Media and Communication at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest. Starting in the coming winter semester 2025/26, bachelor's and master's students at the IfK will have the opportunity to study in the Hungarian capital for a semester as part of the ERASMUS programme.

An ERASMUS semester abroad offers students the opportunity to expand their knowledge of communication studies and to make intercultural contacts at the same time. With the start of the upcoming academic year in autumn 2025, three students from the IfK will now also be able to gain new experiences in the Hungarian capital, Budapest. At the Department of Media and Communication at Eötvös Loránd University, subject-specific content is combined with cultural encounters.

Eötvös Loránd University offers exchange students a first-class English-language seminar programme. The members of the Department of Media and Communication come from a range of different fields, including communication and media studies, sociology, cultural studies, literature, art and philosophy. The course content is based on the department's research priorities, which cover a wide range of topics. Students can take courses such as ‘Media and Society’, ‘Media Ethics: Old and New’ or ‘Culture in Practice: Culture and Terror’.

The Department of Media and Communication is taught by renowned professors of communication and media studies, such as Prof. Dr. habil. Gábor Polyák, head of the Institute for Media and Communication at Eötvös Loránd University Budapest and Prof. Dr. habil Ferenc Hammer.

The campus of the Department of Media and Communication is located in the centre of Budapest. The campus has a wide range of facilities, including a library, sports facilities, a canteen, a pub, a garden and an open-air sculpture park. The institute has a computer laboratory and a digital video and radio studio for teaching and experiments. Staff and students have access to the university library, the faculty's book collection and the library of the Central European University.

In addition to its academic excellence, Eötvös Loránd University Budapest also impresses with its location. In Hungary's largest city, you will find attractions such as the Parliament building, the Chain Bridge and the Fisherman's Bastion, as well as a wide range of museums and other cultural institutions. The urban atmosphere is complemented by recreational areas such as Margaret Island, which, in addition to parks, also has a zoo and an open-air swimming pool. A little further afield, for example, Lake Balaton, Central Europe's largest lake, can be visited.

Three students from Münster can come to Budapest each year, and three Hungarian students can spend a semester here in Germany. There are places available for both Bachelor's and Master's students. The cooperation with Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest is the first partnership of the IfK in Hungary.
