Department of Communication's Excursion to Sputnik Agency Provides Insight into PR Communication Work

(10.07.2024) Last week, 12 students from the Department of Communication visited the Sputnik agency at the Münster harbor. Through practical workshops, the participants received direct insights into the workings of a PR agency.

Business head Christian Wopen welcomed the students within the agency's premises. Along with photographer and media designer Gerlind Rieckhoff and PR editor and video expert Tim Henrichs, he introduced the agency and its operational areas. During a tour led by HR consultant Julia Wille, the students learned who the agency's clients are and what PR measures Sputnik implements for them. Additionally, it was explained why the agency is organized into teams of PR consultants and PR editors.

Following the tour, the participants got hands-on experience: In one of three guided workshops, the students actively explored aspects of corporate communication, image production, or video production. One small group conducted a SWOT analysis of Sputnik's Instagram account to assess its strengths and weaknesses, as well as its opportunities and risks. Another group took photographs for various tasks, and other students created an Instagram Reel about their visit to Sputnik. Thus, the students had the chance to try their hands at various communication fields within the PR agency.

This excursion was organized as part of the voluntary supplementary offerings of the Competence Centre for Media Practice. Also, this summer semester, an excursion to Westfälischer Anzeiger in Hamm was conducted. The Department of Communication thanks Sputnik agency for the invitation and the opportunity to gain insights into agency work!
