DUNKEL: IfK students explore the topic of ‘darkness’ in a magazine
(20.11.2024) What is hidden in the dark? 14 IfK students asked themselves this question as part of the ‘Magazine Journalism’ seminar in the 2024 summer semester. They spoke to people about the Münster crime scene, depression, stalking and long party nights. The result is the magazine DUNKEL.
The practical media seminar ‘Magazine journalism - exciting stories properly researched’ teaches students the practical basics of magazine journalism. Under the guidance of Fiona Weber-Steinhaus, editor in charge of the foreign desk at ZEIT Online, IfK students have produced a magazine on the topic of ‘Dark’. They interviewed, wrote, photographed, discussed, drafted headlines, discarded them - and learnt how to do proper research and tell good stories in the process.
The recently published DUNKEL magazine combines reports, interviews and portraits on the subject of ‘darkness’. The students interviewed Münster crime scene detective Mirko Schrader (played by Björn Meyer) and researched a possible stalking case in Münster's student halls of residence. They spoke to a woman who has managed to live with her severe depression and accompanied students partying all night long. They investigated the question of why the use of party drugs is so widespread.
