At Mathematics Münster, we are celebrating gender diversity with several events and digital activities throughout the week from 8-12 May in the context of the May12 initiative.

Prof. Dr. Eva Maria Feichtner is the founder and co-director of ALTA (Institute for Algebra, Geometry, Topology and their Applications), University of Bremen, and was the vice president of internationalisation and diversity until last year.

Movie "Olga Ladyzhenskaya"

This year, courtesy of Ekaterina Eremenko, the May12 initiative offers the screening of the 30 minutes-length movie "Olga Ladyzhenskaya".
This movie was first presented during the World Women in Maths meeting in 2022 and tells the story of Olga Alexandrovna Ladyzhnskaya, whose 100th birthday was in 2022.

About the International Women in Maths Day

Der Tag bietet eine gute Gelegenheit für die mathematische Gemeinschaft auf der ganzen Welt, Frauen in der Mathematik zu feiern und ihre Erfolge sichtbarer zu machen. Ziel ist es, Menschen zu inspirieren und ein offenes, einladendes und integratives Arbeitsumfeld für alle zu fördern.

Der 12. Mai ist das Geburtsdatum von Maryam Mirzakhani, der ersten und bisher einzigen weiblichen Gewinnerin der Fields-Medaille. Sie starb 2017 im Alter von 40 Jahren an Krebs. Ihre wissenschaftlichen Ergebnisse sowie ihr Leben und ihre Karriere sind eine Inspiration für alle, Frauen wie Männer. Ihr Geburtsdatum, wurde für den "International Women in Maths Day" ausgewählt, um Frauen in der Mathematik in ihrem Gedenken zu feiern.
