IfK students win the GWA Junior Agency Award with campaign for Preußen Münster

(28.01.2025) Last weekend, the bachelor students of the practical media course ‘Junior Agency - Can I pitch it? Yes you can!’ won first prize at the GWA Junior Agency Award together with the husare agency. The young talent competition organised by the German Association of Communication Agencies (GWA) is regarded as the most important university competition in the country. A total of seven teams from various universities competed in front of a high-calibre jury in Mittweida.

‘This prestigious award is confirmation of the creativity and expertise of our students. It illustrates how we successfully combine theory and practice to shape the communication professionals of tomorrow,’ said Prof Dr Ulrike Röttger, Professor of Public Relations Research at the IfK.

Under the direction of Mark Bourichter, Managing Partner of the Emsdetten-based agency husare, ten IfK students spent a semester working on a campaign for SC Preußen Münster. The focus was on developing a campaign that communicates the rebuilding of the Preußenstadion, reduces reservations and clearly explains the key advantages of the new stadium in the city and in the Münsterland region.

‘I am particularly proud of my team. We were the smallest group and yet we delivered a perfectly tailored campaign. It was incredible fun to see how this team grew within six months and learnt so much,’ says a delighted Mark Bourichter. The IfK students were even able to win over Münster's Mayor Markus Lewe for an interview for their campaign.

Marcel Weskamp, Head of Media & Communications at SC Preußen Münster, summarises: ‘We are very proud of the students who represented their university, the city of Münster and SC Preußen so worthily at one of the most important marketing awards for young talent in the country. With their convincing concept down to the last detail, they not only won over the expert jury, but also us. The special features of the Münsterland region, the club and the outstanding importance of the stadium project for the entire region were moulded into a realistic and down-to-earth communication strategy. I would be delighted if we could work together to realise at least some of the ideas and anchor them in the cityscape.’

The jury day and award ceremony took place at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences this year. Seven university teams transformed real customer briefings into innovative, creative and in some cases socially relevant campaign ideas and pitched them in front of thousands of viewers on YouTube, Twitch and around 200 people in the film studio at Mittweida University. They were coached by the partner agencies Damm & Bierbaum (Frankfurt), zebra Group (Chemnitz), Oscar Bravo (Munich), husare (Emsdetten), BBDO Germany (Düsseldorf), Leo Burnett (Frankfurt) and Creativteam Communications (Hanover).

The IfK would like to congratulate the students of the winning team.
