IfK-Graduate receives Paul Lazarsfeld-Prize 2018

(27.08.2018) For her master’s thesis with the title “Text-Classification Using Machine Learning”, IfK-Graduate Anke Stoll receives the Paul Lazarsfeld-Prize.

In her thesis, supervised by Prof. and Armin Scholl and PD. Dr. Jens Woelke, Anke Stoll investigates methods of automated and computer-assisted analysis of test-data using machine learning.

Every year, the Paul Lazarsfeld Society (PLG) rewards up to three outstanding and methodologically exceptionally demanding seminar papers or theses in the field of communication studies. The PLG supports the laureates with 1.000 € each. All laureated will present their papers at this year’s conference of the DGPuK (German Communication Association) methods division, which is taking place from September 12th to 14th, 2018 at the TU Ilmenau under the title “Computational Methods in Communication Studies”.

After receiving her master’s degree at the Münster Department of Communication (IfK), Anke Stoll is working as a research associate at the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf since July 2018. In her dissertation, she plans to further investigate the potentials of machine learning and automated language processing for communication studies.
