Recommendations for those affected

We recommend that people who suffer from procrastination (see also the German self-test) seek professional support from a counseling center or a psychological psychotherapist.

At this point, however, we would like to give those affected a few tips.

  1.  Choose a specific task that you keep putting off.
  2.  Observe yourself closely over several days. Find out under what conditions you avoid the task and under what conditions you deal with it.
  3.  Define the next steps to be taken in this matter that are as small and concrete as possible.
  4.  Set an exact time, a clear period of time and a specific place each day where this next step is to be taken.
  5.  Be careful not to take on more than you can manage from the outset.
  6.  Develop reminders so that this opportunity does not slip through your fingers.
  7.  Evaluate afterwards how it went and what difficulties you had.
  8.  Also reward yourself for small successes.
