About us

"Mathematics Münster: Dynamics – Geometry – Structure" brings together around 200 mathematicians from a wide range of mathematical disciplines, conducting research in Münster. Together, we form a dynamic and internationally renowned research community.

Since 2019, Mathematics Münster has been funded as a Cluster of Excellence at the University of Münster through the Federal and State Governments’ Excellence Strategy. The Cluster advances cutting-edge research by implementing integrated approaches to solve fundamental problems across various mathematical disciplines. These approaches combine different techniques, perspectives, or fields of expertise to address challenges comprehensively. Mathematics Münster is embedded in an excellent research environment and maintains close collaboration with several Collaborative Research Centres (CRCs) as well as interdisciplinary research centres.

Where we are

Mathematics Münster is located on the Mathematics Campus in the city of Münster in North Rhine-Westphalia/Germany, not far from the Schloss (seat of the University administration). The Centre of Mathematics Münster (CMM) is currently being built here, a research building in which mathematicians will find a place for exchange and communication from 2026.

German Research Foundation extends the Collaborative Research Centre “inSight”

The Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) 1450 "inSight – Multiscale imaging of organ-specific inflammation" at the University of Münster, which has been running since January 2021, will receive approximately 13 million euros from the German Research Foundation (DFG). The second funding period of four years will start in January 2025. Our researchers Prof. Dr. Christian Engwer and Prof. Dr. Benedikt Wirth are involved as investigators in this CRC. Other members of Mathematics Münster contribute to several "inSight" projects.
