Advanced academic writing

Target group: doctoral and postdoctoral researchers

For researchers already actively working on an English academic text (such as a thesis chapter, article or conference paper), this workshop will hone participants’ skills presenting their research in a compelling and engaging way. Participants must prepare and pre-submit a mini 3-4 page version of the text as we will not only be focusing on self-editing techniques but also on giving, responding to and incorporating feedback effectively in a range of contexts.

Schedule:

Pre-submission of text: Monday, 12 January 2026
Session 1: Monday, 19 January 2026 10:00–16:00 (Zoom)
Session 2: Individual consultations by appointment 26–30 January 2026 (Zoom)

Objectives:

  • Practice techniques for writing compelling texts that engage reader interest

  • Apply self-editing techniques and peer-review techniques to pre-prepared texts

  • Implement strategies for effectively giving and receiving feedback on your work

Requirement: C1 English. Only those who submit the required text by the required time (12 January 2026) will be able to participate in the workshop. While writing helps us think through and organise our ideas, the ultimate goal of academic writing is to communicate those ideas. So come prepared to keep your camera on, support your peers and share your work.

Facilitator: Dr Julie Davies (Supportstelle Englisch)

Diese Veranstaltung findet in englischer Sprache statt. // This event will be held in English.
