    Yaprak Melike Uyar ist Ethnomusikologin. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Jazz und populäre Musik der Türkei sowie die Musik des Mevlevi-Ordens des Sufismus. Mit ihrer Dissertation "Jazz in Turkey: The Cultural Connotations and the Processes of Localization" erwarb sie ihren Doktortitel in Musikwissenschaft am Türkischen Staatlichen Musikkonservatorium der Technischen Universität Istanbul. Sie schloss ihren MA-Abschluss in Musikethnologie an der ITU MIAM mit einer Arbeit über "The Commodification of Whirling Dervish Rituals" ab. Sie arbeitete sechs Jahre lang als Dozentin am Staatlichen Konservatorium für Türkische Musik und unterrichtete dort die Kurse 'Geschichte der Populären Musik', 'Jazz Appreciation', 'Geschichte der Türkischen Populären Musik' und 'Popular Music Studies'. Sie arbeitete auch als Teilzeit-Dozentin an der Bilgi Universität und unterrichtete die Kurse "Geschichte des Jazz" und "Musik und Gender". Von 2019 bis 2021 arbeitete sie als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin an der Freien Universität Berlin im Rahmen des Critical Thinking Residency Programms. Im Sommersemester 2020 hielt sie eine Lehrveranstaltung mit dem Titel 'Modernisierung und Hybridität: Musics of Turkey an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin ab.

    Zwischen April und September 2021 arbeitete sie als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin für das CMO-Projekt an der Universität Münster, mit ihrer Forschung zu "The Canonization of Ottoman Classical Music".
