Runners enjoy the Leonardo Campus Run despite the heat

University of Münster represents largest group with 419 runners / Number of participants at pre-COVID level

No matter how rainy the early summer was, it seems to be an unwritten law that the Leonardo Campus Run takes place in around 30 degrees and sunshine - as was the case yesterday, Wednesday (June 26). At the 22nd edition of the running event organized by Münster University Sports, 3.750 athletes started. Children, beginners, advanced and ambitious runners could once again choose between four distances: 750 meters, two and a half, five and ten kilometers. In the evening, the relay race over four times two and a half kilometers provided a breath of fresh air. Although this was only the second time the competition had been included in the program, it was very popular with 53 team relays. As was the event as a whole: "With today's event, we have reached a level of participation that was comparable to before the COVID-19 pandemic. We are delighted that the enthusiasm for running is so strong, especially in these high temperatures," emphasized Tim Seulen, co-organizer at University Sports.

There was an enthusiastic atmosphere on campus and many of the participants sat together for a long time after the runs. "I've rarely seen the Leonardo Campus so full," said Thomas Böckenholt, runner and member of the University of Münster's organization team. "It was nice to see how relaxed the atmosphere was - it was just unique." With a view to the increasing number of participants, the 500 mark is being targeted for the future. As always, the runners from the University of Münster were easy to identify. The light blue shirts join the long list of colorful running shirts that have become popular collector's editions. In addition to the traditional runs, the 10,000-step competition is now part of the Leonardo Campus Run repertoire. The day before the event is dedicated to the popular sports alternative. Many employees diligently collected steps on Tuesday (June 25).

Anyone who would like to take part next time can make a note of the date for the 23rd Leonardo Campus Run in their calendar: June 25, 2025.
