Young Professors Programme (YPP)

The Young Professors Programme supports and accompanies junior professors and junior research group leaders in their individual career and personal development as well as in their everyday professional life.

The programme offers assistance in successfully mastering the various challenges and current career steps. Our aim is to provide needs-orientated and flexible support. All programmes can be used and combined individually.

  • Programmes

    • An introductory meeting with the coordinator to get to know each other personally, during which the programme offers are presented and qualification requirements are discussed. The meeting also provides orientation when you arrive at the university. For example, you will be introduced to various potentially useful facilities and services.
    • One-to-one mentoring with experienced personalities from the University of Münster
    • Specific further training opportunities and all further training opportunities relevant to you at a glance as well as the opportunity for personal counselling
    • Networking opportunities with other junior professors and junior research group leaders as well as other experts
    • Straightforward, personalised advice and support at all times in finding the right facilities and contact persons at the University of Münster
  • Events

The events can be attended independently of each other free of charge and can be freely chosen. You can register at any time in the training portal and obtain your written confirmation of participation after the events. If you need advice or want to find individual solutions, please contact the coordinator at any time. Additional specific events can also be organised if required.

The further training events on offer consist of

    • topic-specific events for participants in the programme, e.g. for interim evaluation
    • Events on arriving at the University of Münster (Onboarding of professors for all first-time and newly appointed professors)
    • Events on leadership in science
    • and other relevant topics for junior professors and junior research group leaders, e.g. compatibility, diversity, science communication

Specific networking events for programme participants are offered as required, e.g. as a lunch with expert input and exchange. You can attend further networking events as part of the Onboarding of Professors event series. An annual networking event is organised for former and current participants of the YPP mentoring programme.

  • Mentoring

We see mentoring within YPP as an individual learning process with the following basic requirements:

    • Mentee and mentor are independent of each other (no assessment, no employment relationship).
    • Both take part voluntarily.
    • Goals and expectations are made transparent.
    • The collaboration is characterised by mutual goodwill, respect and confidentiality.

This is what you can expect from YPP mentoring:

    • Individual one-to-one mentoring with a flexible starting point
    • Duration: 1 year
    • Mentoring meetings approximately every 4-6 weeks
    • Professional support during the mentoring process (materials, individual counselling by the coordinator on request)
    • Additional offers: solution-orientated peer mentoring, workshops for mentors (exchange and consolidation of mentoring skills)
    • Annual networking event for current and former mentees and mentors

Would you like to become a mentee?

Please contact the coordinator at any time to arrange an appointment for an information meeting. After the interview, you decide whether you would like to participate. The coordinator will match mentee and mentor (from different departments at the University of Münster). After a meeting and feedback from the mentoring partners as to whether the collaboration can succeed, you decide together on the starting point for your one-to-one mentoring.

Would you like to become a mentor?

Thank you for your interest! Please contact the coordinator to arrange an appointment for an information meeting.
