Opportunities for Grants

  • Grants at the Institute

The Institute of Sport and Exercise Sciences has been implementing a Young Researcher Support Initiative (NFI) since the 2016/17 winter semester.

The aim of the initiative is to enable doctoral candidates at the Institute of Sport and Exercise Sciences to participate in programs that offer support in various areas of the doctoral period (research, teaching, administration, publications, scientific communication, etc.). The program includes offers that are intended to help you better reconcile the demands of the doctoral period. Two to three offers are planned per semester.

The goals of the Institute of Sport and Exercise Sciences are

a.) to enable a doctoral period of six semesters (i.e. three years) and
b.) to specifically support people in the qualification phase in their development.

As the majority of academic staff at the IfS only have temporary employment prospects, the promotion of academic qualifications is also part of the IfS's responsibility as an employer. In this context, it is also important to recognize achievements in the context of doctoral studies. At the same time, by offering the NFI, the Institute establishes a canon that defines the level of training and thus attests to the Institute's externally recognizable standard.

The NFI comprises the following components:
    - A science day at the University of Münster with lectures on theory formation and epistemology
    - Lab rotation
    - Participation in events of the central institutions Graduate Center, SAFIR and Center for University Teaching,
    - Career counseling
    - Workshops by internal and external speakers on topics such as submitting applications, academic communication, time and project management
    - Joint workshops on ethics and academic work
    - Writing workshops

The NFI includes the opportunity to obtain a certificate. This certificate is awarded by the Institute and the KFWN after the prerequisites have been checked.
