If you experience boundary violations, discrimination, and/or violence at the Institute of Sport & Exercise Sciences, or feel that people are exploiting their power or dependency over you or others, you can contact our confidential counselors at any time, listed below.

You will receive a response from us as soon as possible with a suggested time for an initial in-person consultation or telephone call. All concerns are treated confidentially and will not be shared with anyone else unless you request otherwise.

Are you unsure whether your concern is serious enough or whether we are the right people to address?

If you have any doubts about whether your concern is serious enough or whether you are in the right place with your concerns, please feel free to contact us! Remember: You are not alone, and you are welcome to seek advice and support.

  • Our Tenor

If you feel that you or others have been subjected to a violation of your boundaries, we always take this seriously. We value your personality, religious or cultural background, and personal boundaries. We want to support you according to your needs. We listen to you and can help you find the right people to talk to if you would like further advice or to file a complaint. We will not take any action without first obtaining your express consent. Empathy and appreciation are very important to us!

  • Who can contact us?

As confidential counselors, we are available to all members of the Institute of Sports Science, including students, staff, and guests. You can contact us if you have experienced abusive behavior toward yourself, or if you have observed abusive behavior, or if someone has confided in you, and you would like to discuss it.

  • What happens during the consultation?

In an initial consultation, we strive to create a trusting and comfortable atmosphere for you, initially taking on a listening role. Our goal is to first understand what has happened and how you are feeling about it. Together, we can then discuss your concerns and possible next steps. We will also provide you with guidance on the options and contacts available within and outside the university.

  • What can you expect from us?

We are members of the Institute of Sport & Exercise Sciences, and we are committed to ensuring that individuals who have experienced or observed behavior that violates boundaries have a trusted first point of contact. We are not trained psychotherapists. Therefore, we primarily see ourselves as first point of contact who can, if desired, refer to other agencies. We have completed advanced training on the topic of boundary violations, discrimination, and violence at universities and strive to support you as best as possible.

Who are we?

Our representatives are listed alphabetically below. Our representatives work in various departments or are members of the student council. You can decide who you would like to contact.

  • Axel Binnenbruck

    © Medienlabor IfS

My name is Axel Binnenbruck, and I have been working as a permanent lecturer for special tasks (LfbA) at the Institute of Sports Science since 2005. As a qualified sports teacher, trained at the German Sport University Cologne (graduated in 1996), I bring my passion for sports to both my teaching and committee work – including the Quality Improvement Commission, the Department Council, and the Institute's Board of Directors.

Born in 1969, I am the father of two adult children and an avid sports player. I particularly enjoy handball, tennis, QATCH, and occasionally tamburello.

I am also interested in intercultural exchange and travel – with a particular focus on Scandinavia, Hungary, and, in the future, Portugal. Between September 2026 and August 2027, I will be taking a sabbatical to gain new perspectives and broaden my horizons outside of everyday university life.

The best way to reach me is via email at binnenbruck@uni-muenster.de or by phone at +49 251 83 32355.

My main responsibilities are practical teaching at the Bachelor's and Master's programs, particularly in the sports of badminton, skiing, and mountain biking. In the Master's program, the focus of my work is on teaching sports to different target groups. I particularly enjoy spending a lot of time in the gyms and on excursions, as well as the productive work with the students. When you're not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family, and I lead the water and snow sports trips in a collaborative project between the Institute of Sports Science and the Children's Hospital at the University of Music and Performing Arts (UKM), where I enjoy spending time with children, young people and their families, and motivated sports students at the Veluwemeer or in the Kleinwalsertal valley. If I can give you one piece of advice, it's to step outside the linear course of your studies, take advantage of learning opportunities, and get involved.
