New online video: Cluster of Excellence “Religion and Politics” presents its current research

In a new online video, the Cluster of Excellence “Religion and Politics” at the University of Münster presents its current research on the complex field of tension between religion and politics across different periods. Featured in the film are the Egyptologist Angelika Lohwasser, the political scientist Svenja Ahlhaus, the Islamic theologian Dina El Omari, and the Catholic theologian Hubert Wolf. Their projects range from religion and politics in ancient Kush, to strategic litigation in religious policy, feminist exegesis of the Quran, to the ‘Asking the Pope for Help’ project, which analyzes Jewish letters of petition during the Nazi era.

In the film, the researchers also talk about citizen science and a variety of transfer formats used by the Cluster of Excellence, as well as the early-career opportunities that the Cluster provides to students, doctoral candidates and postdocs. The film also shows as an animation the Campus of Theology and Religious Studies, which is the site for interdisciplinary exchange. With one of the world’s largest theological libraries, the Campus is the only one of its kind in the world. From the end of 2025, it will become a place of dialogue for science, politics, religion, media, and civil society. (tec/vvm)
