Slow Science - A way out of the academic hamster wheel? Workshop on 17.09.2024

On 17.09.2024 from 6 to 8 pm, the LATERNE project is organizing an introductory workshop on the topic of “Slow Science”.

Academic work is increasingly dominated by pressure to accelerate, growth logic and a high density of tasks and requirements. This not only promotes conformism, competitive thinking and opportunism, but also affects the mental health of researchers and the quality of research.

In the workshop, we will look at the concept of “slow science” as a radical alternative and open up a safe space for researchers at the University of Münster to encourage an discussion on the current conditions of scientific work and possible alternatives.

We were able to win Elvira Crois, Assistant Professor at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, as co-host. Elvira has been part of the “Slow Science in Belgium” group for several years, which organizes an annual Doctoral School course on the topic.

If you are interested, please register until 15.09.24 by e-mail (name, position and institution) to julia.wiethuechter@uni-muenster or fynn.schmidt@uni-muenster.de.

The workshop takes place in the REACH (Geiststraße24, 48151 Münster). Participation is only possible in presence. The event will be held in English. If this is an issue for your participation, please let us know and we will find a solution.
