In his book, Wendt discusses the transformation to sustainability that is necessary to avoid the profound ecological and social crises of the future. Regarding obstacles and prevailing conditions, however, the concept of sustainability increasingly appears as a utopia rather than an actually feasible possibility. The sustainability concept is therefore examined for its utopian character through various perspectives. Subsequently, Wendt also discusses to what extent utopian research enables the necessary transformation and thus strengthens the idea of sustainability. By discussing these two areas, he aims to build a bridge between these previously disconnected disciplines and to close an identified research gap.
