Münster Perspectives: IfK Students' Video Magazine Sheds Light on Views from Münster and Leads to Research in Greece

(July 29, 2024) What makes a good journalistic TV feature? Students of the IfK seminar "Idea, Research, Filming, Editing, Text. The Path to a TV Feature" led by Florian Bauer have pursued this question. The result is a nearly 40-minute magazine that includes five different investigative features – from Münster to the edge of Europe.

In the media practice seminar, the students received a practice-oriented introduction to television journalism. Under the guidance of the award-winning journalist, TV presenter, and media trainer Florian Bauer, they learned the basics needed for a deeper understanding of television. They independently created TV features in teams, covering all production steps from the concept through research and filming to editing and sound. Assistance with cutting and sound editing was provided by student worker Julian Wortmann.

And the seminar product is impressive: In five investigative features, the students illuminate different perspectives, ranging from Münster to the edge of Europe. They asked residents of Münster what makes the West German city so livable and questioned city staff about why there is a strict ban on swimming in the Aasee lake. The redesign of Bremer Platz and this year’s European election, which for the first time allowed people aged 16 and older to vote, were also focal points. One of the small groups even flew to the Greek island of Lesbos for their research: financially supported by the alumni association MedienAlumni Münster e.V., the students explored the island, which gained public attention four years ago due to the fire in the Moria refugee camp and has since been forgotten.

The seminar generated five interesting and diverse perspectives on life, politics, and society in Münster and Europe. The 40-minute magazine can be viewed here.
