Virtual computers under Windows

To call up a virtual computer from our IVV1Pool, proceed as follows:

To be able to use a virtual pool computer, you need the VMWare Horizon Client software.

  • Installation of the client on IVV1 domain computer

    If you are on a domain computer, you can install the VMWare Horizon Client via the software centre.

    Installation of the client outside the domain

    Step 1:

    For computers outside the IVV1 domain, a manual installation is required. You can download the necessary installation package here.

    Now start the installation using the downloaded file. Settings are required in the first step, click on "Customise installation".

    Deviating from the default selection, the following configuration is required:

    • Internet protocol: Automatic selection
    Now click on ‘Accept and install’. After the installation, you will be offered the option to restart the computer. You should now save all work in other programmes and then restart the computer.

    Use of the client

    Step 1:

    Now start the VMWare Horizon Client. The connection server should already be displayed on the IVV1 domain computer, then continue with step 3. If not, select ‘New server’.

    Enter ‘VDI.UNI-MUENSTER.DE’ as the server name.

    Step 3:

    You can now connect to the server by double-clicking on the icon. In the login window, please enter your university user ID and the central password. Under Domain, please select ‘WWU’.

    You can now start a session in the desired computer pool in the overview.
