New map of places of law in Münster
We invite you to dive into Münster's legal history with us. A new virtual city map (www.orte-des-rechts.de) documents almost one hundred places of law in Münster from the Middle Ages to the present day and allows for discovery tours through the city - from medieval places of execution to the modern Constitutional Court.
The project will be presented to the public on 21 October, 18.00, in the Stadtmuseum Münster. After the presentation of the map by project manager Dr. Lennart Pieper, historian Prof. Dr. Ulrike Ludwig and legal historian Prof. Dr. Peter Oestmann, directors of the Käte Hamburger Kolleg, together with Dr. Angelika Lampen from the Institut für vergleichende Städtegeschichte and Dr. Bernd Thier from the Stadtmuseum will discuss Münster's legal places and special features of the city's legal history. Afterwards, there will be a reception with refreshments. Admission is free of charge. The event language is German.
The new city map documents places of law from seven categories, including rule and court, where law is established or administered, as well as places of remembrance that commemorate justice and injustice. The Käte Hamburger Kolleg is responsible for the project. Other cooperation partners are the Institut für vergleichende Städtegeschichte at the University of Münster, the Landesarchiv NRW Abteilung Westfalen and the Münster City Archive and City Museum. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) funded the project.
