The MS Wissenschaft comes to Münster
From 18 to 22 July, the MS Wissenschaft will dock at Münster Stadthafen (near the Kunsthalle). The exhibition on the subject of freedom can then be visited daily from 10.00 to 18.30. The Kolleg is participating with an exhibit and two accompanying events.
On 18 July from 16.00 to 18.00, Dr Benjamin Seebröker and Dr Lennart Pieper will provide insights into research at the Käte Hamburger Kolleg during a "Meet the Scientist" event at exhibit no. 7. At the Kolleg, fellows from all over the world study law in various societies from antiquity to the present day. Freedom plays an important role in this, as it has often been defined in legal terms throughout history. This gave rise to the idea for the historical quiz "Freedom in Transition", which the two of them designed together with their colleagues for the MS Wissenschaft.
On 19 July from 18.30 to 19.15, Prof. Dr Ulrike Ludwig, Co-Director of the Kolleg, and Dr Peter Worm, Head of the Münster City Archive, will be hosting a dialogue on deck. Under the heading "Stadtluft macht frei - Freiheitskonzepte im mittelalterlichen und frühneuzeitlichen Münster", the two will embark on an exciting search for clues together with the audience. What exactly does the well-known German proverb actually mean? What kind of freedom could a mediaeval or early modern city offer and who was able to enjoy it? And what traces can still be found in Münster's cityscape today?
Admission to the events and the exhibition is free of charge.
