Prestigious collaborative award for Münster scientist
The European Commission has granted a massive 3.3 million Euros to a team of fluorine chemists from a number of states. Amongst this group is Prof. Ryan Gilmour, newly appointed CiM Professor of Chemical Biology, and member of the Cells in Motion Excellence Cluster.
The highly competitive grant, which has a success rate of around 10%, will allow this specialist team of fluorine chemists to establish an 'Initial Training Network' (ITN) to educate the next generation of European fluorine chemists. Organofluorine chemistry remains of strategic importance to the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries, as well as in the preparation of high performance materials. This wonderful opportunity will allow students funded by the programme to gain experience in a number of specialists labs ranging from synthetic chemistry and biochemistry to NMR spectroscopy and analytic chemistry.
Professor Gilmour was recently the recipient of a 1.25 million Euro ERC Starter Grant from the European Commission.
