Higher-semester enrolment (all applicant groups)
If you wish to enrol in a restricted-admission subject at a higher semester, you must apply for a winter semester from beginning of August until 15 September or for a summer semester from beginning of February until 15 March via the Application Portal.
When applying for enrolment at a higher semester, your Abitur grade and waiting time have no relevance as they do when applying for first-semester admission. Rather, your chances for admission depend on what applicant group you belong to. There are three applicant groups:
- Students who are already enrolled at the University of Münster at a lower semester in the same degree programme (corresponding subject and degree name) and have earned academic credit for placement at a higher semester in this degree programme
- Transfer students who are already enrolled in the same degree programme (corresponding subject and degree name) at a university located in the EU
- Applicants who wish to change majors (lateral entrants) but have never been enrolled in the same degree programme at a university in the EU
The application process consists of the following steps:
- Apply for admission online for the degree semester, at which you would like to begin. In the application, be sure to indicate your applicant group.
- After you have submitted your online application, you will receive an email confirming receipt of your application and an attached checklist. You can find your applicant number in the confirmation email.
- Log in to the Infoportal. There you will find a list of documents which you must upload so that your application can be processed.
- After you have uploaded all the required documents, the Student Admissions Office will review your application. You can check on the status of your application via the Infoportal.
Please upload the following documents:
- Students seeking higher-semester placement: semester certificate, placement certificate
- Transfer students: semester certificate (if you have studied medicine, pharmacy or dentistry outside of Germany, please obtain a Transfer of Credit Notice (Anrechnungsbescheid) issued by the State Examinations Office), certificate of achievement (only for pharmacy and dentistry if you have studied in Germany) placement certificate (only for degree programmes in biosciences and biology), intermediate examination certificate (only for degree programmes in law)
- Lateral entrants: semester certificate, placement certificate
You can obtain a placement certificate from your respective degree course advisor [de]. In some cases, the respective Examinations Office is responsible for issuing placement certificates. If this applies to your subject of study, you will be informed accordingly in the upload area of the Infoportal.
Please check the status of your application on a regular basis via the Infoportal.
