Announcement of Special Olympics research day on 22 May 2024

The fifth Special Olympics NRW State Games will take place in Münster in May 2024. On the occasion of this event, we would like to invite you to a scientific symposium immediately beforehand. The aim of the conference is to bring together and discuss the current state of knowledge on the topic of sport by and with people with intellectual and multiple disabilities from different perspectives and disciplines and to exchange ideas with each other. The motto of the national games #GrenzenlosBewegend (#MovingWithoutBorders) can serve as orientation: In addition to the sporting competition, one of the primary goals of Special Olympics is to enable people with intellectual disabilities to gain more recognition, self-confidence and greater participation in society through sport. We look forward to receiving submissions that deal with the extent to which it is possible to fulfil these aspirations from the perspective of different stakeholders and to implement movement "without boundaries". We cordially invite "seasoned" colleagues, those in qualification phases and student lecturers alike!
In addition to a keynote lecture by Prof. H. Tiemann (University of Leipzig), two working group sessions and a poster presentation are planned. At the end of the conference, a dialogue between science and practice will bring coaches, athletes and scientists into conversation with each other. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to take part in the opening ceremony.
