The WWU Münster and soccer club SC Preußen Münster plan on cooperating more closely and hence getting science and top- level sports closer together. This was published in a statement titled as "Initiation of cooperations for promoting top- level soccer" that was signed by representatives of the university and the soccer club. In detail it means that the training and matches of the offspring as well as the professionals are scientifically supervised by the WWU. Additionally, dual careers of top- level athletes shall be promoted as well as new financial ressources shall be found for developing the cooperation scientifically as well as in an athletic sense.
" The promotion of sports generally as well as of top- level sports specifically are highly important for the WWU. Hence, it is not only our duty but also of our concern to scientifically accompany SC Preussen Münster as a professional soccer club on its athletic path. By that, we manage to combine research and praxis", explains Prof. Dr. Johannes Wessels, rector of the WWU.
"The cooperation with the WWU is a great step that connects us even more to the city. Together we strive for a holistic promotion of the top- level sports and a praxis- related transfer of research in many dimensions. Preußen Münster connects with an internationally recognised institution in Münster that gives our athletes a perspective for a dual career of high quality that is hard to find elsewhere", says the director of Preußen Ole Kittner.
Partners at the WWU are the faculty of sport sciences, the top- level sports representative Prof. Bernd Strauß as well as the university sports. For now, the cooperation is planned until the end of 2024; a continuation is possible.
