Agreement to promote competitive and elite sports signed

In order to promote competitive and top-class sport in boxing, the University of Münster and the Boxzentrum Münster e. V. signed a cooperation agreement. The collaboration, which has already existed for several years, is to be intensified in the coming years in order to systematically expand existing synergy effects between science and competitive and elite sports. Together, the university and the boxing center want, among other things, to optimize the conditions for boxers who study at the University of Münster and at the same time practice top-class sport. Young talents who are interested in both competitive sports and studying will also be supported in the future.

The contract runs until the end of 2028. It was signed by Prof. Dr. Johannes Wessels (Rector of the University of Münster), Prof. Dr. Heiko Wagner (Dean of Studies at the Institute for Sports Science), Prof. Dr. Bernd Strauß (top sports representative at the University of Münster), Jan-Philipp Müller (head of university sports) and Dr. Ulrich Thelen (1st chairman of the boxing center) and Prof. Dr. Farid Vatanparast (2nd chairman of the boxing center).

“As a partner university for top-class sports, it is very important to the University of Münster to create the best possible conditions for athletes so that they can combine their studies with their sporting careers. With the cooperation agreement, we are realizing this intention in the competitive sport of boxing,” emphasized Johannes Wessels. “The constant improvements in the infrastructure, the scientific training support and the networking with partners in sports promotion and sports have already contributed to the University of Münster and its partners achieving an extremely positive development. We want to continue and expand on this path,” added Bernd Strauß.
