Lecture "500 years of the Reformation in Germany"
To close the “Hans Blumenberg Visiting Professorship” lecture series at the Cluster of Excellence “Religion and Politics” in the winter term of 2016/2017, the historian Prof. Dr. Lucian Hölscher spoke about religion and secularity in modern society. “The competition between religion and secularity has reached a certain stalemate today”, he said. “Neither side can claim the upper hand”. No longer does secularism constitute the “universalistic background for the competition between religious interpretations of the world”, nor can religion act convincingly any longer as a “common platform” for secular and religious groups.
In the summer term of 2016, the emeritus historian from Bochum, Prof. Dr. Lucian Hölscher, was the first “Hans Blumenberg Visiting Professor” at the University of Münster’s Cluster of Excellence “Religion and Politics”. Named after the influential philosopher Hans Blumenberg (1920-1996), the visiting professorship is intended to help bring innovative ideas from international research to Münster and strengthen interdisciplinarity at the Cluster of Excellence.
