The Cluster of Excellence “Religion and Politics: Dynamics of Tradition and Innovation” at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill a position for a

Doctoral Research Associate

(salary level TV-L E13, 65%)

The position is offered for three-year term within the sub-project A3-29 "The 'Newly Baptised' in the Tsarist Empire of the 18th and 19th Centuries" and under the direction of Prof Ricarda Vulpius.

This fixed-term part-time position (65% FTE) is scheduled to start on 1 June 2022.

The Cluster is an interdisciplinary research association with a thematic focus on the dynamic power of religion as a driving force behind political and social changes. Disciplines involved include history, political science, sociology, Catholic and Protestant theology and law, Islamic studies and theology, Jewish studies, Egyptology, archaeology, philosophy, philology, art history and ethnology. Your tasks:

  • collaboration in the sub-project A3-29 "The 'Newly Baptised' in the Tsarist Empire of the 18th and 19th Century" (project leader: Prof Ricarda Vulpius)
  • participation in the study programme of the Graduate School of the Cluster of Excellence
  • active involvement in the general research activities of the Cluster of Excellence
  • participation in the activities of the Chair of East European History

This position is tied to working towards a doctoral qualification.

Our expectations:

  • An above-average university degree in history (university degree: German Diplom or master's degree) that qualifies you for entry to the doctoral programme is required.
  • Good knowledge of Russian is required, good knowledge of German and English is expected, knowledge of a Turkic language is desired.
  • Good knowledge of Russian history in the 18th and 19th centuries and especially Russian imperial history is desired.
  • Strong organisational and team skills, as well as social competence, are required.
