Gender content research

In this research area, the central question is if physics are gender-neutral in content and form? Connections of subject culture, expertise and gender are to be uncovered and researched in the specific research landscape of physics. This applies in particular to new forms and academic structures such as excellence clusters or junior professorships.

Each specialized culture constructs its own habitus in the form of working methods, working structures and technical communication. Especially in subjects with a small proportion of women like physics, this "doing discipline" is closely linked to gendered behavioral patterns in the form of "doing gender". Only by the entangled view of habitus and subject it becomes possible to identify which disciplinary characteristics perpetuate gender differences. For the research field physics such investigations are missing so far.
