ZIN junior scholars contribute to environment project week at the St. Mauritz Gymnasium in Muenster

With Ulrike Jürschik (Institute for Environmental and Planning Law, WBGU) and Nils Stockmann (Institute for Political Science) two ZIN junior scholars at once were invited as speakers to a an environment project week of the St. Mauritz-Gymnasium in Muenster. In numerous lectures, workshops and excursions, pupils from grades 9 to 12 spent this week dealing with a wide variety of issues relating to the topics environment and sustainability.

At the beginning of the week, Nils Stockmann introduced the students to the tension between strong sustainability and questions of (social) justice. With reference to the concepts "Green Economy" and "Post Growth", he made clear that understanding sustainability as a global and local topic is crucial in order to understand environmental policy and its impact on the economy and (human) coexistence.

Ulrike Jürschik's lecture at the end of the week also dealt with the question of justice in climate policy. Based on the presentation of the work of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU), she explained the concept of a just and in-time climate policy, presented by the WBGU in 2018, and gave an insight into international climate policy and the Paris Convention of 2015. The interaction between digitalization and sustainability, which the WBGU examines in its current main report "Our common digital future", was another focus.
