ZIN-member Prof. Löschel gives an interview to the National Observer on the transformation of the energy system
Besides holding the Chair of Microeconomics with a Focus on Energy and Resource Economics at the University of Münster and being ZIN-member, Prof. Löschel also chairs the Energy Expert Commission of the German Government to monitor the energy transformation. Since 2017 he directs the Virtual Institue Smart Energy North Rhine-Westphalia. A few weeks ago he was announced as one of the Lead Authors of the IPCC’s (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) Sixth Assessment Report (2018-2022).
While Germany is mainly dependent on carbon in its energy supply, Canada increasingly focusses on oil and gas. In order to achieve climate protection goals these energy sources need to be successively replaced by alternatives. In an in-depth interview with the Canadian online newspaper “National Observer” Prof. Löschel spoke about the Paris Climate Agreement, the future challenges facing countries and the economic consequences of the transformation process.
