Prof. Andreas Löschel will contribute as a Lead Author to IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report (2018-2022)
ZIN-member Prof. Andreas Löschel will take over the important function of being Lead Author of the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Together with colleagues from all over the world Prof Löschel will summarize the global state of knowledge on climate change. The report will be published in 2021/2022. Its results will also play an important role in implementing the Paris Agreement of 2015.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is a scientific and intergovernmental body under the auspices of the United Nations. Its mission is to provide the world with an objective, scientific view of climate change and its impacts. In this sixth round of the Assessment Report series, the IPCC has invited 721 experts from 90 countries to participate as Coordinating Lead Authors, Lead Authors and Review Editors. The bureaux selected the authors from 2.858 experts representing 105 countries, following a call to governments and IPCC observer organisations for nominations.
Following their selection, the authors will now review the existing scientific literature and prepare drafts according to the outlines of the Working Group contributions already agreed by the Panel. Prof Löschel will contribute to the IPCC AR6 in Working Group III, Chapter 6 “Energy Systems”. The assessment is organized in three Working Groups: I is responsible for the physical science basis, Working Group II looks at impacts, adaptation and vulnerability and Working Group III covers mitigation of climate change.
Prof Löschel was also a Lead Author in IPCC AR5 (2010-2014).
