Applying for the aptitude test
Below, you will find step-by-step instructions for taking the aptitude test and an overview of the other admission requirements.
This is how the application process works:
Online application
From February 17th to April 10th 2025, you can apply for the aptitude test for studies starting in the winter semester 2025/2026.
Upload
The following documents must be uploaded in the online portal. Please note that international applicants must upload authenticated German or English translations of their certificates:
- curriculum vitae (CV)
- higher education entrance qualification (e.g. Abitur certificate), school-leaving certificate or a written confirmation of your expected degree
- if applicable degree certificate(s) (e. g. bachelor’s or master’s degree certificate etc.) or a written confirmation of your expected degree with your transcript of records
- if applicable letter of motivation (see § 3 (2) of the aptitude test regulations for the course of studies “Master of Music – Music and Education”) or statement ("Master of Music - Music and Creativity" major in KMP, pop vocals) or cover letter ("Bachelor of Music - Music and Education " major in KMP).
- if applicable B2 certificate of German language proficiency or written confirmation of the expected completion of your language test

if applicable compositions and compilation ("Bachelor of Music - Music and Education" major in KMP) or compilation ("Master of Music - Music and Creativity" and "Master of Music - Music and Education" major in KMP)

if applicable video recording according to the requirements of the respective fields of study and majors. Instructions for creating and uploading the video can be found under "Aptitude test | Requirements".
Recognised language certificates
The following language certificates must be uploaded to the upload area of the online application portal.
- B2 certificate from the Goethe-Institut
- B2 certificate from "TELC" with a grade of at least "gut" (good, 2.0)
- DSH 1
- TestDaF with 3 points in all subsections
- DSD II with B2 level in all four sections ("Deutsches Sprachdiplom")
- OnSET B2
Students in one-year language courses must email their language certificates to the Studienbüro/Examinations Office by mid-April.

Note: If a mandatory part of the examination is not taken, the entire aptitude test is considered not passed.
Procedural Fee
To take the aptitude test, candidates are required to pay a procedural fee of 43 euros. The procedural fee must be paid per course of study/per major subject. If, for example, you should decide to apply for two or three courses of study, you are obligated to pay the procedural fee twice or three times.
