The study of Elementary Music
The study of elementary music and its didactics offers the opportunity to express oneself in a variety of ways on different instruments, with the voice and in movement. Learners and teachers deal with the different forms of artistic expression in music, language and movement. This involves an examination of the goals, content and methods of making music together, improvisation, performance and creation. Artistic design work plays an important role in various contexts.
In Münster, students are practically involved from the very beginning. The long-standing cooperation with the UKM-KiTa Niki de St. Phalle offers students the opportunity to get directly involved in musical collaboration with a group of children. The focus is always on the child with its individual abilities and skills. Basic musical phenomena form the starting point for experimenting, exploring, improvising and creating, both here and in the other forms of elementary music education. Practical experience in vocal ensemble conducting in cooperation with the Cathedral Singing School of the Diocese of Münster or in cooperation with groups of senior citizens are essential bridges for experiencing music with people in a group. Cooperations with the Theater Münster and other educational institutions in the Münsterland region offer students practical fields that are developed during the course of study.
The study of elementary music is done in combination with the study of another artistic major. By acquiring the corresponding didactic competencies, graduates are qualified to teach both elementary music and an instrument or voice.
