Mathematics Münster starts cooperation with Brazilian research institute

Two strong research institutions have now agreed on an intensive cooperation: Mathematicians from the University of Münster and researchers from the "Instituto de Matemática e Estatística" of the "Universidade de São Paulo" (IME-USP) will cooperate in the field of geometry for twelve months as part of the FAPESP-SPRINT funding programme.

The cooperation serves to prepare joint research projects through mutual scientific visits and meetings. In early 2024, members of the IME-USP will come to Münster for research stays. In February and March 2024, scientists from Münster will travel to São Paulo to hold mini-courses for doctoral researchers and postdocs and to deepen the collaboration with the research groups.

The cooperation, which was made possible by the far-reaching support of the Brazil Centre of the University of Münster, is supported in the framework of the FAPESP-SPRINT funding programme. The funding agency FAPESP (Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo) in the state of São Paulo provides up to 10,000 euros for selected projects. The University of Münster also contributes up to 10,000 euros per project, with 50% of these funds provided by the Brazil Centre and 50% co-financed by researchers with other funds (institute, department, third-party funds, etc.).

From Münster, Prof. Dr. Linus Kramer (lead), Prof. Dr. Christoph Böhm, Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Hein, Dr. Bianca Santoro and Prof. Dr. Anna Siffert are involved in the project. The cooperation partners on the Brazilian side are Prof. Dr. Claudio Gorodski (lead), Prof. Dr. Marcos Alexandrino and Prof. Dr. Paolo Piccione.
