New Münster Research Fellow: Duong H. Phong

We welcome Prof. Dr. Duong H. Phong (Columbia University) as a Münster Research Fellow. He is known for his research on complex analysis, partial differential equations, string theory and complex geometry. During his stay at our Cluster from 30 July to 30 August 2023 he is collaborating with Dr. Bianca Santoro, Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Hein and other members of the complex geometry group in Mathematics Münster.

Duong H. Phong has published more than 140 papers with almost 2500 citations on MathSciNet. Some of his best-known results are the Fefferman-Phong theorem on the spectral counting function of subelliptic differential operators, the D'Hoker-Phong formula for determinants of Laplacians on hyperbolic Riemann surfaces, the semicontinuity of singularity exponents of holomorphic maps proved in joint work with Jacob Sturm and a very recent proof of an L^infinity estimate for solutions to the complex Monge-Ampère equation in joint work with Bin Guo and Freid Tong.

An abridged list of Duong H. Phong's honors includes being an ICM speaker in Zurich (1994), receiving the Stefan Bergman Prize (2009), being elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2013), and being named to the 2021 class of fellows of the American Mathematical Society for contributions to analysis, geometry, and mathematical physics.
