Become a member of the MMGS
You can find the MMGS program in the regulations. A brief overview can be found here. To become a member of the MMGS, fill out the application form and the MMGS data protection declaration. Then send these to Elke Enning. She will explain the next steps to you.
After starting your doctorate (approx. 1 to 1.5 years), you will conduct your first progress review with your mentor and your supervisor. More information on the mentoring program can be found here.
Enrollment as a PhD Student
In addition to your admission to the MMGS, you can also enroll at the University of Münster. This offers you several benefits: For example, you will receive the Deutschlandticket, which allows you to use public transportation throughout Germany. You will also receive a student ID card, which provides discounts at many locations.
Detailed information about these benefits can be found on the website of the General Student Committee (AStA). Please note that after your enrollment, you will need to pay a semester fee of approximately 300€ each semester.
To enroll, fill out the supervision agreement from the University of Münster and have it signed by your supervisor. Then follow the steps at this link.
Further information can be found on the University of Münster’s enrollment page for doctoral candidates.

Hand in your Dissertation
The steps for submitting the dissertation are outlined in §5 of the doctoral regulations. You can find the application for admission to the doctoral examination mentioned in the regulations here. A brief overview of the doctoral regulations and the further procedure after submitting the dissertation can be found in the information sheet of the examination office. You can find more information on the pages of the examination office (also useful).
Please note that the two documents differ in terms of the number of printed copies. The fact is, you must submit four printed copies to the examination office. Whether your examiners also require a copy is best clarified with them directly.
IMPORTANT: Currently (October 2024), the doctoral regulations for the field of mathematics are being rewritten. As soon as they are published, we will update this page accordingly.
