Science on the Christmas tree

A fluorescent toxin makes the skeleton of this cancer cell glow. Scientists delivered the toxin into the cell using nanocontainers based on sugar and protein. They have also shown that the containers can transport other substances, which are normally unable to pass the cell membrane, into cells. These tools will help researchers study many dynamic processes in cells. – A human cancer cell in a cell culture, confocal fluorescence microscopy.
