The Brazil Centre mourns the loss of its long-standing member and good friend Prof. Matias de Oliveira Pinto
It is with great consternation and profound sadness that the Brazil Centre announces the death of its esteemed member and cherished friend, Professor Matias de Oliveira Pinto, professor of cello at the Faculty of Music of the University of Münster. Born in Brazil, Prof Matias was very enthusiastic about academic cooperation between the Faculty of Music and various institutions in Brazil. He was highly welcoming towards visiting professors and students and actively participated in binational masterclasses. His cello lessons attracted talents from all over the world, including a significant number of Brazilian students who, today, contribute to the enrichment of the musical scene in Münster, Brazil and the world. One such student is his dear musical partner and esteemed friend, Professor Fabio Presgrave. Over the course of 20 years at the University of Münster, he cultivated many long-lasting and fruitful partnerships, thereby creating bridges and expanding the horizons of music. With his premature departure, several projects were left unfinished, which has left a significant void, but also memories of unforgettable moments and a legacy of inspiration and generosity. His outstanding contributions to the activities of the Brazil Centre include his outstanding appearances at events, whether on site or virtually, which added a sense of beauty and contemplation to the encounters. His commitment to the arts, his contagious enthusiasm, his generosity and his passion for teaching left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The Brazil Centre would like to express its sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
